A profession I never thought I would step into in the first place, yet somehow, I had always found myself drawn towards teaching. During my college days, I was often keen on helping and teaching my classmates. Somewhere along the way, that interest naturally led me to venture into academia, and today, I find myself embracing the role of an Assistant Professor. Though it was a new experience for me, I embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. As an assistant professor, I had the opportunity to teach Bachelor of Architecture students, handling subjects such as Electrical Services and History of architecture. I also assisted second-year students with their school design projects and guided first-year students in designing a petrol bunk. One of the most rewarding experiences was the opportunity to guide final-year students through their thesis, supporting them as they developed and refined their ideas into meaningful architectural projects. Though it was only a short period of five months, I truly enjoyed interacting with the students. At times, I even miss being called “Dhivya Ma’am” by them. Many of them are still in touch with me, and I continue to guide and support them whenever they seek my advice. I have always been passionate about guiding people and sharing whatever knowledge and experience I can. For me, teaching is not just about academics; it is also about contributing to the upcoming generation who will shape the future of our profession as fellow architects in the fraternity. Being able to guide, encourage, and inspire them in their journey is something I deeply value and cherish. Interaction with veteran Architect Vergis Oommen I also had the incredible opportunity to meet the veteran architect Vergis Oommen for a case study. It was one of the most valuable experience I would say, and something I will always cherish and value.
